ROCK THE BELLS SF 2011 RECAP

My first time going to Rock the Bells in the Northern California but I've actually been to the Shoreline amphitheater before. Forgetting that the parking lot is a giant field that can go on for days. The venue is really nice and the weather up here sure beats Rock the Bells in San Bernardino.

There year there were four stages total: the main stage, 36th Chamber stage, Paid Dues, & Grindtime stage. First one we hit up was the 36th Chamber stage to see Black moon.

The Paid dues stage was literally next to the 36th Chamber stage literally but facing a little towards the left to focus sound in a different direction. Either way you could still hear what was going on on either stage. Big K.R.I.T came on on the Paid Dues stage so I headed there. He's pretty HYPE!

Back to the 36th Chamber stage to check out Mobb Deep.

Then we were off to the Grindtime stage to check out the Grindtime Finals.

Up the hill was the main stage. Check what insanity the lawn looked like.

Waiting for Nas' set to start we were lucky to see Pete Rock and Primo cutting it up.

Then here comes Nas who finish his set shorter than scheduled.

Lauryn Hill's set wasn't for another hour or so, so back to the 36th Chamber stage to catch the rest of the GZA's set.

Followed by Ghostface and Raekwon. But before they came out Supernat came to rock the stage. For those of you who've never seen Supernat the first time is always fun, hype, and pretty amazing. He freestyles and does three little sets. After seeing him so many times and even booking him in the past six years it was kind of sad for us to know what he was going to do and actually more sad that none of it has changed. With three Emcees where he freestyles gives clues to an emcess he'll rhyme like turn around and spit a verse sounding just like that Emcee. Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes, and Biggie Smalls. C'mon dude... mix it up a bit.

Also he does a freestyle about items that people pull out in the crowd. He's been doing this for a while and people know he does this that the very first time I seen him someone brought a cereal box and cruches.

Then it was up with Ghostface and Raekwon.

Supernat came back to freestyle the set list.

Ending the night by swinging by to check out Lauryn Hill for a song.

Rock the Bells Norcal you got a nice venue and beautiful weather but Socal show goes are way more hype and more excited for the music. I think people up here see Rock the Bells and treat it like a hippie fest more than going for the music.

CUFF'D

I don't necessarily watch anything on MTV these days. Not being anti MTV just nothing really interests me on the channel anymore. A new show CUFF'D premiered last night and a friend of mine put in lots of time to make it. Congrats to him and getting the show on MTV. Here's episode 1. Also you can check out an article about Cuff'd on Television without Pity.

TRON UPRISING

Looks like Tron is getting an animated series. Hope it's not horrible.

WRESTLING BUDDIES

I know a bunch of you remember Wrestling Buddies. They were popular during the late 80s and early 90s. Plush/pillows that resembled WWF characters. I remember my cousin use to have Ultimate warrior and we use to beat it up all the time. They need to bring these back. If you never got to see one or play with one you were missing out.

POWER106 JUMP OFF MIX 2011 BY DJ DSTRUKT

[No disrespect to any DJ’s but the skill level on the radio hasn’t been the same since 90’s and early 2000’s. I know very few DJ’s on the radio that I can actually consider dope. That’s what motivated me to put this mix together. I wanted to show the average DJ that you can still paint a masterpiece with a sprinkle of motivation and creativity. This was my first mix that I can actually consider “jiggy”.

(Switching gears)

Now that it’s 2011 everyone pretty has the same playlist, and It’s not the size of the itunes library, it’s how you play your music. Mucho props to the big homies @DjEcho and @Nik_Ferrer for making this possible. Shout outs to my two crews Under the Table and BEVMO for the endless support. - DJ Dstrukt]

FRANK OCEAN : NOSTALGIA, ULTRA

As the years go by I seem to get more picky with my music but I have to admit I've been really out of the loop with all the music that's out there right now. Frank Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape though is one of those joints that caught my ear and just gets you listening to the entire thing through.

DISTINGUSING BETWEEN THE SOUND OF FIRE WORKS AND GUN SHOTS

Never in my life did I think about how the sound of fire works and gun shots sound so alike. The very first incident of this was back in 2004, I went to a party in Fullerton. A bunch of rounds went off people freaked out while some of us said no those were fire works. In the end some kid was shot and CSU Fullerton's Greek parties were put to a halt for a few years.

With it getting closer to the 4th of July the sound of fireworks have been going off more often these past few weeks. I remember a few years back when I was visiting home I couldn't tell once again, if it was fire works or gun shots sounding off. We can always hope they are fire works. But last night it wasn't just fire works. Waking up I was told about gun fire and a confrontation somewhere around the corner. We've never really had too much of a ruckus like this but leaving the neighborhood it was confirmed by the sight of this car.

STARTING TO FEEL LIKE SUMMER

Finally we've been having some steady weather out here. It's hot! No more of that get hot for two days and suddenly rain out of no where. Despite all the beautiful weather I don't get to enjoy it as much as I want because you'll find me working and staying busy.

Summer night roof tops.

Bike rides.

Pool side.

Beers & papaya salad from the park. Yes I said the park and if you don't know, look at Papaya park.

BEES x NYC

"A swarm of bees disrupted life in New York City this week when they descended on this Little Italy mailbox. The block was shut down for several hours as beekeepers worked to move the insects to a safer location. (Photo: INF)"

My first thought was this:

MR. GHETTO - WALMART

At first all I can say is Oh My God ahahaha!! We can somewhat relate to this since Wally World is one of places that is CONSTANTLY busy out here, we even call it Midnight Mall. But geez, I can't believe they were able to shoot all this in store and in the parking lot. I wonder what all the people passing by thought. Gold! Thank you Von for making my day and showing me this.

CRAZY WEATHER IN JUNE

For the past month the weather has been really instable. From days that felt like summer to insane gold ball sized hail. Yesterday was one of those days. Completely out of the norm, that even a tornado had touched down a few counties over.
